Summit Track - Mt. Cootha

we bought a baby carrier! Macpac are currently updating their baby carriers & as a result all of their old models were on clearance - winner! we ended up purchasing a Macpac Possum as it ticked all of our boxes.

Ebony has to love it...

i couldn't wait to give the pack it's first outing so Ebony & i headed off to Mt. Cootha to meet up with Clearfoodandliving & Anna to walk the Summit track.

This track leads from J.C. Slaughter Falls Picnic Area to Mt Coot-tha Lookout (near the roundabout). Grade: Moderate, steep over short sections Habitat: Open eucalypt forest Must: Experience the view from the lookout

as usual we started off early to avoid the midday heat & set off while Ebony's belly was still satisifed, with what (little) food she ate at breakfast. sometimes i wonder how this girl grows at all eating (or picking at, is probably a more appropriate term), such small meals throughout the day.

Mt. Cootha is a beautiful area central to many well maintained tracks, suitable for even the most novice of walkers. the Summit Track, home to many native birds, possums & bats, travels through a pleasurable (even moreso after a rainy season) open eucalpyt forest, which starts at the car park area of the JC Slaughter falls & finishes at the top of MT. Cootha lookout. during World war II the Reserve became a military base for the RAAF & US Navy and served as a mine storage & assembly point. remnants of it's rich history are still observed along the track with an old tin shelter built into the side of the hill remaining.

with a predominantly all uphill walk i was happy to share the load, aka Eb's & bunny (although i still seem to be carrying bunny) to the top of Mt. Cootha where we enjoyed an iced frappe while Ebony stretched her legs.
